Nature Trails On Land and Sea
Kinasi has developed two main nature trails from Kinasi Lodge. The first is the 'Walk along the Shore' which covers some 2km of the foreshore of Chole Bay, to the South of Kinasi and back through small farms located close to the Bay. The walk is an excellent bird-watching excursion as well, and usually guenons (monkeys), fruit bats and elephnat shrews wil be seen in the undergrowth. The trail usually requires a minimum of two hours and should be undertaken in the early morning or late afternoon, to avoid the hot sun. Your Kinasi guide will carry drinking water, bird guide books and binoculars. The Sea Trail is a fantastic way to see Chole Bay and understand the dynamics of this complex ecosystem that is of such biological importance. The trail covers mangrove-lined estuaries, seagrass flats, soft coral beds, bird roost islets and the main coral reef beds in Chole Bay. As often as possible we will sail the dhow on these trips, so that visitors experience one of the most enjoyable ways to travel that has been in existence for thousands of years. The excursion is best enjoyed as part of a full day or half-day out, and a packed cool box with soft drinks, wines and beer make this a fabulous experience. The trail itself must be covered during the high tides so that the shallow areas may be reached by the dhow. The "don'ts" of marine parks and reserves
- The collection of marine organisms whether dead or alive by visitors is prohibited.
