The seafarers who are believed to have come this far so long ago settled in northern Madagascar.   The jahazi is a small dhow used for fishing and cargo throughout East Africa. the word 'dhow' or 'dhau' correctly refers to a craft with the stern also pointed (like a canoe) and these can be seen at Jibondo island. They are less common than the jahazis, such as those we use for diving and snorkelling.   If you would like to make a sailing excursion, perhaps with a picnic and snorkelling, we are happy to arrange this with one of the village communities. You can sail to one of the islands or sand bars in Chole Bay for a half-day or full day excursion, or simply experience an ancient tradition and skill around the bay, if you have not already done so after diving or snorkelling.
